It’s annual global Home Movie Day and we’re planning a Know Your Bristol on the Move event to coincide with this.
Home Movie Day is a celebration of amateur films and filmmaking held annually at many local venues worldwide. Home Movie Day provides the opportunity for individuals and families to see and share their own home movies with an audience of their community, and to see their neighbours’ in turn. It’s a chance to discover why these films are important and to learn how best to care for them. For the Know Your Bristol event, films and videos will be inspected, projected and a limited number digitised, with contact details collected from those of you who wish to digitise films for the BRO in future. The Know Your Bristol team plan to bring their digitisation lorry to park at Knowle West Media Centre in the morning and outside MShed in the afternoon in order to run home movie digitisation workshops. You are invited to bring your personal films and videos to the event. Experts will be on hand to conduct an initial inspection of films and videos to assess whether they might be projectable/playable. If you want your films projected, you’ll have a chance to so. The digitisation set up will be such that you can learn how you can do this yourself at home and you will also be encouraged to consider the BRO as a place to digitise your films and videos to archival standards and make them accessible to the wider community.
